KP Update: 1000 Strike Pledges

Last week, your actions resulted in the most successful healthcare worker informational pickets in years when hundreds picketed in one day! On Saturday, over ONE HUNDRED KP 105 members convened to discuss the next steps and create a plan of action after Kaiser’s greed caused the end of scheduled bargaining to break down for 85,000 workers–the first time in over 20 years this has happened.

Kaiser has been disrespectful to our members during bargaining. What else do you call proposing increased copays, more outsourcing, dangerous and divisive two-tier lower wage rates, eliminating the pension and cutting retiree medical for new hires, cutting and NO equity for Colorado and areas outside of California on pay raises.

We still don’t have a written comprehensive economic proposal from them. We still haven’t received financial information–by region–that we are legally entitled to and we requested months ago.

Kaiser is willing to raise CEO pay by 60%, and spend nearly a BILLION dollars on a fancy new facility. The question KP members asked each other at the meeting was, “What are we willing to do for our patients, our communities, and for the future of KP healthcare workers?”

The resounding answer from members was “STRIKE IF NECESSARY.”

WHAT’S NEXT? STANDING UNITED AND TAKING THE PLEDGE

By the end of the meeting, over ONE THOUSAND strike pledges were picked up by members ready to talk to their coworkers about standing united.

Going on strike is not an easy decision, but a necessary one to show Kaiser that healthcare workers are the reason why they are one of the most profitable care providers in the nation. It’s time for KP to see our strength.
