 Boulder County employees are uniting to
improve public services and jobs

County employees provide vital services that help make Boulder a great place to live. 

The work we do keeps our communities safe, clean, and healthy and creates a climate for economic growth, which means better jobs and a higher standard of living.  But Colorado public services are under increasing stress and strain.  Budget cuts on all levels of government are making it more difficult to provide high quality services. 

Demand for services is increasing, but resources are getting scarcer –

• State funds for Boulder County youth programs have been cut by half a million dollars despite increasing needs in the community.
• Children are on waiting lists for Head Start.
• The rising cost of fuel for county vehicles has impacted many departments.
• In the last year, 45 percent more county residents have sought assistance from the county’s workforce program in finding employment.
• All county departments are doing more with less.

Public service employees under attack

Despite the clear need for more resources, some politicians are calling for sweeping cuts in public services and blaming public employees for budget problems.  They are taking aim at our PERA pensions, breaking the promise of a guaranteed retirement benefit.  In response to these attacks, public service employees in Colorado are uniting.

Boulder County Employees Joining Together with SEIU

That’s why Boulder County employees are uniting with Service Employees International Union, America’s fastest growing public service union.

By forming a union with SEIU, we will be able to unite with other public employees statewide to build a movement to defend public services and win improvements at work.

By building an organization for Boulder County employees, we can work together with the families we serve, community leaders, and elected officials to improve public services in Boulder County.  We can publicly support and advocate:

• Adequate staffing levels so we can deliver quality, accessible services.
• Sufficient funding to provide quality services.
• The tools and training we need to improve our delivery of public services.
