* Caucus Resolution

Support Workplace Democracy for Boulder County Employees

This resolution was adopted as part of the official party platform by the Boulder County assembly of the Democratic Party on April 15, 2006.

WHEREAS, the right of working people to freely form unions is a basic principle of human rights in a democracy;

WHEREAS, federal law guarantees private sector employees a democratic process for a majority vote on forming a union, but in the public sector in Colorado it is up to each separate employer to establish such a process,

WHEREAS, some employees of Boulder County have requested that such a process be established for them to vote on a union,

Be it resolved that the Boulder County Democratic Party supports the freedom of Boulder County public employees to choose whether or not to form a union, and calls upon the County Commissioners and other elected County officials to:
  • Establish a fair and democratic process enabling employees to determine by majority vote whether or not to form a union,
  • Direct county management to be neutral on this issue, and
  • Recognize and negotiate with the employee union, should employees decide in favor of forming a union.
