Raising wages will help Colorado families, communities, and our economy thrive. This is a real victory for workers.\u00a0<strong>But $10.20 is not nearly enough.<\/strong>\u00a0We\u2019re going to continue fighting to increase the minimum wage until it\u2019s truly a livable wage that can adequately cover increasing rents and costs of living.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/l105.seiu.org\/page\/s\/sign-up-to-learn-more-about-cope\" href=\"http:\/\/l105.seiu.org\/page\/m\/18a0a1f9\/19d2fa1\/7e66dea5\/1ff9ae84\/1323103138\/VEsE\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/l105.seiu.org\/page\/m\/18a0a1f9\/19d2fa1\/7e66dea5\/1ff9ae84\/1323103138\/VEsE\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1515364193232000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGdmdyyniCsC8pN01_9R57KMNuCRw\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd\" src=\"https:\/\/ci5.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/8KYdaMId3lYJFYZDjiiXHndJzecUo4BROKzbg-Y5tv0ioTkXvcYiii8nunpZG4Cvddb5mRuKxMLpfyAW_NEY4q_s1ZpO=s0-d-e1-ft#http:\/\/l105.seiu.org\/page\/-\/wagesrents_2017.png\" alt=\"Get Involved!\" width=\"310\" height=\"310\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a>SEIU Local 105\u2019s\u00a0<strong><a title=\"http:\/\/www.seiu105.org\/cope\/\" href=\"http:\/\/l105.seiu.org\/page\/m\/18a0a1f9\/19d2fa1\/7e66dea5\/1ff9ae85\/1323103138\/VEsF\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/l105.seiu.org\/page\/m\/18a0a1f9\/19d2fa1\/7e66dea5\/1ff9ae85\/1323103138\/VEsF\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1515364193232000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGJhTuXeq9w6Bb860abbDUyEEopVg\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Committee on Political Education<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(COPE) is our voluntary and nonpartisan Political Action Committee for advocacy on behalf of workers.\u00a0COPE was instrumental in our ability to win on minimum wage and it&#8217;s how we hold politicians accountable at every level of government, and how we ensure that our union builds the political power we need to win strong contracts, better benefits, and pass laws to protect our jobs.<\/p>\n<p>When Amendment 70 passed on November 8, 2016, Colorado started on its path toward a livable wage that could help cover rapidly increasing rents and costs of living.\u00a0<strong>Between 2012 and 2016 alone, average Colorado rents increased six times faster than average wage growth (42% vs. 7%).<\/strong>\u00a0At the start of 2017, Colorado minimum wages increased from $8.31 to $9.30. Today\u2019s step increase from $9.30 to $10.20 is progress,\u00a0<strong><a title=\"http:\/\/l105.seiu.org\/page\/s\/sign-up-to-learn-more-about-cope\" href=\"http:\/\/l105.seiu.org\/page\/m\/18a0a1f9\/19d2fa1\/7e66dea5\/1ff9ae84\/1323103138\/VEsC\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/l105.seiu.org\/page\/m\/18a0a1f9\/19d2fa1\/7e66dea5\/1ff9ae84\/1323103138\/VEsC\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1515364193232000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGPwQi1Qw_gc4uH27M7corit4d0kg\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">but we need your help to continue this momentum.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Unemployment continued to fall in Colorado throughout 2017. Continued job growth proves what we already knew\u2014\u00a0increasing the minimum wage does not hurt the economy or corporations.
