After working in the food industry for over 20 years, I can tell you there is now way we can support a family on what we make- that&#8217;s why I&#8217;m fighting for $15,&#8221; said Damian Abbot, one of the striking workers from a McDonald&#8217;s on West Colfax in Lakewood.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seiu105.org\/es\/files\/2013\/12\/DSCN2955.jpg\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-941\" alt=\"DSCN2955\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seiu105.org\/files\/2013\/12\/DSCN2955.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fast food workers from six cities in the Denver metro area walked off the job and participated in the strike. Actions took place at a McDonald\u2019s on West Colfax in Lakewood and at the McDonald\u2019s on 16<sup>th<\/sup> Street Mall during lunchtime.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seiu105.org\/es\/files\/2013\/12\/DSCN2973.jpg\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-940\" alt=\"DSCN2973\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seiu105.org\/files\/2013\/12\/DSCN2973.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very exciting to have such strong community support,\u201d said Brent Dhanie, another striking worker from McDonald\u2019s. \u201cI know I couldn\u2019t do it without all of these folks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The strikes were covered by local Channels 7 and 9 and mentioned on the national NBC Nightly news.
