FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 8, 2025
DENVER, CO — On Monday, June 9 at 1:00 PM on the east steps of the Denver City and County Building, labor and civil rights leaders will unite to address the violent detention of SEIU California President David Huerta by ICE and expose unlawful cooperation between Colorado state officials and federal immigration enforcement.
Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (Colorado WINS)—the state employees’ union representing more than 27,000 classified state workers and a part of SEIU Colorado—along with civil rights organization Towards Justice, will announce their decision to join the whistleblower lawsuit filed by state labor director Scott Moss against Governor Jared Polis. The lawsuit alleges that Polis directed state employees to release names, addresses, and even children’s contact information of immigrant family sponsors to ICE without lawful justification, in violation of Colorado state law.
This event follows a weekend of escalating federal enforcement in Los Angeles, where ICE raids prompted the deployment of the National Guard—a surge that included the violent arrest of SEIU California President David Huerta, who was legally observing the enforcement activity.
“When union leaders are assaulted and abducted for exercising their legal rights, when governors violate the laws they swore to uphold, and when families are being targeted simply for seeking safety, we are in a moment of national crisis,” said Stephanie Felix‑Sowy, President of SEIU Local 105. “Colorado must choose to protect workers, not participate in their persecution.”
